Mix up a spicy Paddy Dew cocktail and enjoy the drinkin’ o’ the green!
Last weekend we got together at a fun event with a bunch of friends and one highlight of the evening was an amazing whiskey bar with some great cocktails. My favorite drink of the night was called a Paddy Dew. I thought that perhaps this was because it was made with either Paddy or Tulamore Dew whiskey (both of which would be great options), but it turns out that the alcohol in the drink was actually Bank Note Scotch whiskey, and that the drink was named after a cocktail originating from Paddy’s Irish Bar and Grill in downtown Portland, Oregon. Either way, this was a surprisingly spicy drink with a great kick, and it would make a great addition to your St. Patrick’s Day party. (Think of it as the Irish take on a Moscow Mule.)
Here is how to make a Paddy Dew Cocktail:
- 2 oz. of your favorite Irish scotch whiskey
- A dash of ginger infused simple syrup (Although the drink would still be great even if you leave this out)
- The juice of half a lime (or about 3 squeezed lime wedges)
- 3 oz. ginger beer (or ginger ale if you prefer a little less spiciness)
- A lime slice to garnish
Add whiskey, ginger syrup, and lime juice to a highball glass. Fill the glass with ice. Top the drink with ginger beer. Garnish with a lime slice. Enjoy!
