Whether you are five, fifteen, or fifty, nothing beats a good, old-fashioned slumber party with your best girlfriends! Here are some of our favorite tips to help you host an evening too good for sleeping.
Sleepover Party Ideas for Invitations
Make your guests feel special before the party even starts by sending out great invitations. Here are a few ideas for invitations to help get you started.
When making your invitations, first pick out a background paper or card that goes along with your party’s theme or color scheme.
Having a pillow fight? Take a solid background color and glue a white pillow shape onto it where you write your information.
Movie night? Try making your slumber party invitation look like a box of popcorn.
Using catchy wording can be another fun way to jazz up your invitations. Here are a few more ideas:
- “We’ll stay up late and have lots of fun, watch movies all night and get our nails done.”
- “2 FUN 2 SLEEP!”
- “Popcorn and movies, girl talk all night, we’ll try to stay up until the morning light!”
- “PJs Required — No Boys Allowed!”
** Tips for your Invitations — If you choose to make your own invitations, don’t forget to include the date, location, and time of your event. It is also helpful to put the host’s name, RSVP by date, and either your phone number or email. Since this is a sleepover, make sure to ask your guests to bring their pjs and toothbrushes!

Sleepover Party Games and Activities
Keep everyone up all night with some amazing games and activities!
Best PJs Contest — Since everyone needs pajamas at a slumber party, why not have a best pjs fashion contest. (Make sure to tell your guests about this on your invitations.) You can make up your own categories for judging (cutest, warmest, most comfortable, best accessories) and give prizes of sleep masks or slippers.
Classic Games — Slumber parties are great for breaking out some classic games to get everyone involved. Board games like Sorry or The Game of Life, or sleepover party games which have become classics, such as The Ouija Board, Magic 8 Ball, or Bop It can all liven up your party.
Spin the Nail Polish Bottle –- Gather as many nail polish colors as possible and set them in a circle. Put one bottle on its side in the center to act as a spinner. Have your guests sit in a circle around the nail polish. Each person takes a turn spinning the center bottle. When the spinner stops, the person spinning paints one nail in the color the spinner landed on. Keep going until everyone’s nails are painted in a rainbow of colors. For a more classic look, take turns giving each other deluxe manicures and pedicures.
Foil Fashion Designers —- Put your guests into teams of two and give each team a roll of aluminum foil. Their goal is to be designers and come up with the best possible foil fashions. Send the teams into different rooms so they can secretly work their foil magic and then come back at the end for a runway show. Ask them to be as creative as possible, making hats, clothing, jewelry, shoes, or whatever strikes their fancy! You might even give awards at the end for best overall design, silliest, most creative, or whatever categories you choose.
Two Truths and a Lie — Learn a little more about your buddies by playing Two Truths and a Lie. In this game, each person takes a turn by stating two true (but little known) facts about themselves along with one lie. Then everyone has to go around and tell which of the three statements they think is false. After the lie is revealed, everyone who guessed right gets one point.
Honey, Do You Love Me? – Everyone sits on a chair in a circle. One person is chosen to be “it”. This guest stands in the center of the circle. Then, choosing one seated girl to start with, she sits on her lap and puts an arm around her neck. While keeping a straight face she must ask, “Honey, do you love me?” The girl in the chair must then keep a straight face and reply, “Honey, I love you but I cannot smile.” If the girl in the chair keeps a straight face, the “it” girl moves onto the next person in the circle, but if the seated girl does smile, she becomes “it” and must give up her chair to the first girl and go on to the next person in the circle, asking “Honey, do you love me?”
Karaoke and Dancing — Let the guest of honor create a sleepover party playlist for the night and get ready to rock out! Singing and dancing are one of the all-time greatest activities for any slumber party. For a more structured form of rocking out, try…
Name That Pop Star –- Put the names of some popular singers and music groups into a bowl. Have your guests take turns choosing slips of paper from the bowl and singing a verse of one of that singer’s songs. Have the others try to guess the song and singer. You can give points for who makes the most guesses and who gives the best performance.
Sleepover Party Ideas for Food and Drinks
After all the activity of game time, your guests will probably be ready for some refreshments. The traditional party staple of pizza is always a crowd favorite for dinner. You might choose to change things up a bit by having your friends make their own pizzas (on pre-made crusts) and choose their own toppings. Or, you could offer a taco bar where everyone puts together their own favorite ingredients.
The do-it-yourself theme can be continued into dessert with a make your own sundae bar. Just add a couple of ice cream flavors, some fudge and whipped cream, and, of course, cherries for the top!
