Thanksgiving Place Cards

DIY Thanksgiving place cards

Do you have children coming to your home this Thanksgiving? Here is a fun idea for children’s Thanksgiving place cards that look like corn on the cob and hold some special surprises to keep them busy during your holiday meal!

We have a big family, and that means lots of kids at the Thanksgiving table.  Every year I try to do something a little special for them. Handprint turkeys, newspaper pilgrim hats, and the creation of a paper bag puppet show have all been Thanksgiving Day highlights. Last year we had 12 children at our Thanksgiving celebration, and that meant a big children’s table, so I thought it would be fun to give them something to keep busy while the adults chatted over coffee.  These toy filled, corn on the cob inspired place cards turned out to be just the thing! Here is how to make them:

Materials:

  • Toilet paper rolls (1 per person
  • Yellow construction paper (cut to fit rolls — about 4.5 by 6″)
  • Green tissue paper
  • Ribbon to tie ends
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Toys to fill the toilet paper rolls (**We used things that would keep the kids busy like crayons, paper, stickers, and small games, but you could substitute anything you choose)

Directions:

1. Glue the yellow construction paper to completely cover the toilet paper roll

2. Fill the roll with goodies

3. Wrap the roll with green tissue paper, leaving a strip of yellow showing to look like corn, and enough extra paper at the ends so that you can tie it off.

4. Tie the roll at the ends like a candy

5. Write each child’s name on a place card or attach a decorative name tag to each
