Celebrate Summer: Blueberry Picking

Blueberry picking Looking for an activity that gets the kids away from their mobile devices and outside without costing too much out of pocket?

Go berry picking!

We are so lucky here in Oregon to have a plethora of berries grown in our state.  I think blueberry picking is a great choice for kids, as the bushes are not too tall and have no thorns.  Due to unseasonable high temperatures in Oregon we headed out early in the morning to beat the heat. A local favorite is The Smith Berry Barn.

Some of our favorite ways to enjoy are blueberries are to toss them into smoothies, and our waffle batter.  We always freeze some for later, but end up eating most of them as a frozen yummy treat.

When we got home we cooled off by enjoying a Blueberry Sparkler.  Sparkling water over ice with a small handful of berries.  A great alternative to soda.

We had quite a bounty this year and decided to share some with neighbors and friends. I purchased berry containers.

They come in a package of 10 and are about .75 cents per basket.Berry Baskets from Amazon.com

I then created some cute blueberry gift tags that I am sharing with you.  Fill the containers, loosely wrap with cellophane.  Then download the circles.  Punch them out with a 2 inch circle cutter.  Use a hole punch and attach it with some ribbon.
