Muppets Party Decorations

The Muppets were definitely a bright and cheery bunch, so rainbow colors featuring Kermit green and Miss Piggy pink would make a great color scheme for your party. You can incorporate these colors into your décor by mixing them up in your tableware, and also by using them in things such as balloons and streamers. Here are some additional ideas for decorating at a Muppets party:

Make Kermit’s Lily Pad Trail — Cut some lily pads (these can be as simple as large circles with a wedge cut out) from green paper or green plastic garbage bags. Tape them to your front walk or driveway to welcome your guests.

“Chickens Only!” — Remember the chaotic backstage setup on The Muppet Show? One prominent feature was the big white sign reading, “Chickens Only Beyond This Point” hand written in bold capital block lettering. This is an easy party decoration that you can hang near your party entrance for a classic Muppet feel. If you have a plush Gonzo toy set him near the sign since he is the ultimate chicken lover in the muppet gang.

Download pictures of your favorite Muppet characters, sign the bottom to look like they’ve been autographed, and set them in frames on your party table or serving area.

Scatter Some Pearls and Opera Gloves — Miss Piggy is known for her style, especially her trademark pearls and gloves. Lay these next to her framed photo or near a plush Miss Piggy doll to add some of her unique flair to your party décor.

Hang Some Quotes — The Muppets were definitely known for their insightful quotes. Here are some  quotes from Miss Piggy that you can copy and use for your party décor. For an even bigger splash, you might use bright markers to write out these famous sayings on big pieces of butcher paper and hang as banners on your walls.

  • “It’s not easy being green.” — Kermit The Frog
  • “Never eat more than you can lift.” — Miss Piggy
  • “Wocka Wocka!” — Fozzie Bear
  • “There is no one on the planet to compare with moi.” — Miss Piggy
  • “Time’s fun when you’re having flies.” – Kermit The Frog

Drape colored streamers and hang clusters of balloons or bright tissue paper poms in your party colors to unify your party decoration theme.

Hang a Rainbow Connection Piñata — A piñata can be a great party décor focal point. Use a classic rainbow pinata to represent Kermit’s search for the rainbow connection.

Use Some Plush Muppets as Your Table Centerpiece — Amazon has a great collection of classic Muppet toys. Pick a few of your favorites and use them to anchor a balloon bouquet as a bright centerpiece for your party table.

Play Chicken, Chicken, Gonzo — Play a classic game of duck, duck, goose, changing the names fit your Muppets party theme.

Play The (Miss) Piggy Snort Game — Have everyone sit in chairs a circle. Blindfold one child and have them start in the center of the circle. Spin the blindfolded child around 3-5 times and have them sit on the lap of the first player they reach in the circle and say, “Snort, Miss Piggy, snort!” That child disguises their voice and snorts (or squeals) like a pig. If the blindfolded child guesses whose lap he is sitting on, the players switch places. If not, he is led back to the center of the circle to try again.

Play Musical Lily Pads — Use construction paper to make big green lily pads. Make enough so that there is one less than the number of guests at your party. Tape the pads to the floor in a large circle. Turn on some Muppet themed music. Have the children jump from lily pad to lily pad as the music plays. When the music stops, whoever is left without a pad is out until the next game. Remove one lily pad and start again. Play until there is only one child left.
