Softball Team Building Ideas

softball team building ideas

It’s springtime, and that means it’s time for all softball players to dust off their cleats and hit the diamond. My daughter has played softball since she was little and I have always been involved with her teams. I love these girls and I love having the opportunity to find lots of ways to make the season special. Here are some of the softball team building ideas that we’ve done so far to get things kicked off!

Team Photos  — Every year we hang both a team photo and individual player photos in a display case outside of the snack shack at the field.  This year we tried something a little different by using softballs to spell out the word “family” in the photo. If you gather enough softballs, you could also write out your school name, team name, or team motto. We are hoping to print this photo onto tee shirts for all of the players at the end of the season. If you have a parent who likes to take pictures, another great idea is to collect these and make a video at the end of the season with some snaps of the team and individual players set to music.

Locker Signs — At my daughter’s school one family volunteers to make a locker sign for each of the players on the team for every away game. The girls go into school early to put these up. These can be simple computer notes, or something a little more. Since I am the team mom, I like to try to make something that the girls can put in a scrapbook at the end of the season. Last year I made team pennants for each player. This year I had two shifts as locker mom. For the first one I traced a varsity letter onto poster board to make personalized team locker signs. For the second I cut the girls’ numbers using a cricut machine (I love that thing!)

Lucky softball hair bows

Lucky Hair Bows — Does your player have a lucky pair of socks, underwear, or other special something? For my girl it is her hair bow. This year she decided that she wanted everyone on the team to have their own lucky hair bow. We made these by cutting black ribbon and using sparkly puff paint to write JHS on one side and each player’s team number on the other.

Softball Team Bonding Activities — Throughout the season the softball team hosts a few team bonding activities. We usually start off the season with a team get together (for players), have a family barbecue around mid-season, and end with a Senior Night for all families where we honor graduating players. This year we gathered the girls for a night of laser tag and pizza, followed by a sundae party and sleepover at my house.  One of the highlights was the game where the coaches showed up and the girls got to compete with them in the laser tag arena. Another was, of course, staying up all night giggling. It was a lot of fun and a great way for all of the players to get to know each other better.
Here are a few pictures from the event. Best of luck to everyone this season!!
